Slytherin Owl: 6-pack plastic rings

Did you know to cut up the plastic rings around 6-packs of cans like soda so that they don't end up in the water where fish and other water creatures can get caught on them? Lucia tells me that you also shouldn't cut them *too small* because then these same creatures can choke on them.

We were cutting some up and then wondered if we could recycle them? Here's the answer: yes, if your recycling program accepts #4 plastics. We use Rumpke and I can't figure out if they do from their website, so I sent them an email to ask. I'll let you know what I find out!

Meanwhile, here's some other lesser-known recyclables you can learn about here: http://earth911.com/news/2010/02/08/wow-you-can-recycle-that/

  1. Follow up: according to Rumpke, they accept plastics #1-7, but bottles only. Bummer. So remember to cut those rings up before putting them in the trash to help protect our water friends!

Or even better, recycle them yourself! Here's a way to make a snowflake ornament out of them - maybe we can decorate for the Yule Ball with some of these!
